"The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. " - Proverbs 10:11
"For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." - Proverbs 2:6
"A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!" - Proverbs 15:23
----------------------------------
Last week, we dug deep to discover that Man is an information processing soul... powered by the Spirit that gives Life to all, we are like fish swimming in an ocean -- of information.
We breathe in information with our senses, we react - chemically and physically to stimuli, and associate those physical sensations with sight, sound, taste, touch, feeling, emotion, and ultimately --ideas-- in our thinking machine. Agape, sacrificial, Love - we saw, was the highest idea we can conceive of... a spiritual concept, a relationship between two spiritual beings!
Well that is the human story in a nutshell. God is Love, and the Bible is that love story, conveyed to us as Information ... the Word of God... coming as ideas and visions to prophets in the Old Testament, incarnate in the person of the Man, Yashua of Nazareth ... and then poured out through the apostles in the rest of the New Testament writings.
That Word, commands us to Love... God and our fellow human beings as being the best recipe for a happy healthy and fruitful life! The Bible is spiritual FOOD for our spirit, containing a fully balanced diet --- we need to eat it regularly, and digest it with the help of the Holy Spirit to truly transform ourselves!
Ideas & Character are what we said are the true currency in the eternal spiritual realm... these ideas come into objective reality when they are expressed -- written down, spoken, or enacted... so there is a deep connection between thinking and thing, and SAYING it. This is why there is a LOT of ink expended in the book of Proverbs (and in the Apostolic teachings) about controlling ones tongue. This week we will just introduce the idea, and examine about 70 texts in the upcoming weeks .... yes there's a lot to be said... (sic)
Gen 1:3 - And God --said, "Let there be light": and there was light.
God expressed His Idea of the Universe through speaking it into existence. The Laws He established (Gravity, Magnetism, Electricity, Heat, LIght..) have not changed for as long as you care to date the Universe and Earth itself ... like His Nature.
The Bible shows us God .. SPEAKING into existence the data, and the laws governing the data that we humans call earth, moon, birds, trees, plants, sky, sun, stars... etc. All modern science confirms that we are all made up out of exactly the same stuff..... except consciousness... which science has traditionally had a VERY hard time understanding.... how could they, if they deny the existence of Spirit?
Not just the reality we live in, God also SPOKE His Laws to a terrified Israel. He wrote them down for posterity, but the 1st 10 commandments were SPOKEN in the EARS of the people of Israel. Exo 20:1 "And God ........spake all these words, saying,...."
Jesus came and spoke and said He was only speaking what He was instructed to say.
"Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. " John 14:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, "If a man love me, he will --keep my words---: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. " - John 14:23-24
He was the first to link Food to Information... in the wilderness he reminded Satan that Man does not live by bread alone, but by every WORD that comes from the MOUTH of God! He said He WAS the Bread of Life... the true bread that comes down from heaven! Data!!!!
He also referred to the coming outpouring of the Word through the Holy Spirit.
"In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying,' If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. ' (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)" - John 7:37-39 That this refers to the knowledge of God through speech is right here in the book of Proverbs itself.... (Pro 18:4) " The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook."
And the Day of Pentecost manifested the opposite of what happened at the Tower of Babel. Where at Babel, peoples understanding was confused so that they couldn't understand the words their companions were speaking... at Pentecost.. their understanding was adjusted so that they heard the apostles speaking... in the HEARERS NATIVE TONGUE!!!
There is a HUGE connection between the Word and the word... well Duh...but we hope you are beginning to grab our meaning here.... we are creatures of information!
Scientists all over the world have their telescopes pointed outward to look for signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence (digging in Mars for example), and have ignored the Bible that has the TRUE DATA... right on their bookshelves gathering dust..... some smart people have tried to analyze the Bible with computers & math... and are amazed at what they are finding there... yes folks.. the Bible is THE MANUAL for extra-terrestrial life, written by an ET!!! Don't be surprised by how its preserved, how it works, how it transforms lives... it is not human!
The big takeway : Just as words are really important to all of 'natural' human existence (think politics, policy, telecommunication, translation) , speaking the RIGHT words is CRITICAL to making WISE & SKILFUL choices... (the Book of Proverbs).
We close this week with a snapshot of what the right words can do, in the lips of a God-fearing person...
