" To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. " - Psalm 36:1

"Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." - Proverbs 3:7

------------------------------------

We continue our study in the book of Proverbs... currently at Proverbs 10:3...

"The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of --the wicked.-- "

We are taking a view of what God's Word says about it in the Psalms and Proverbs, using the parts of the body to keep things organized as we look at it, and as the Lord Himself expresses it...

Prov 6:12 - 6:19 " A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward --mouth. He winketh with his --eyes, he speaketh with his --feet, he teacheth with his-- fingers; Frowardness is in his ---heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud --look, a lying --tongue, and ---hands that shed innocent blood, An ---heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,--- feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that ---speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. "

Please check our previous post where we discussed the "Mouth" of the wicked. This week, we are looking at ... you guessed it... the eyes have it!

Eyes are used in both a literal and metaphorical sense... as you can see from the texts we have chosen to highlight this week. Eyes give us a point of view... on the world, about ourselves, and about God... so are sometimes used to designate the thoughts and intents of the heart... things that our minds process!

The root of the wicked thought process is that there IS NO GOD... hence no reason to fear/respect Him, no reason to obey His Commandments... no reason at all! Their mindset is self-- at any cost! Contrast that with those, who by nature/conscience (belief in God aside) do things for their fellow man, not themselves ! Different animals right? ... There is an explanation...

The Lord Jesus gives us the Parable of the Wheat and The Tares (Matthew 13:24-30).

If you read it (we commend our studies on the Parables of Jesus to you), you will note that the tares are planted by the enemy... they are NEVER wheat... there is no plan of redemption for them, and their destiny is to be burned!

These tares (though they may INITIALLY look like wheat... they soon show their true colors) rebel absolutely against the authority of God Himself, and are destined for the destruction that is their eventual end! These are the truly wicked.... what do their eyes focus on?

We are just given a few sketches... some which we have already shared. Here the others...

SET B: The Eyes of the Wicked

-------------------------------------

Pro_10:10  "He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall."

'Winking' with the eye is an idiom that indicates malice... either in shutting them in evil, or inviting others to join in it. This malice definitely brings about sorrow with it... but it is small compared with the consequences of speaking foolishness!

There is a prophetic linkage between winking the eyes and bearing false witness.

Psa 35:19-21 "Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them --wink with the eye-- that hate me without a cause. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land. Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, 'Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it. ' "

The desires of the wicked are set against the good for evil... ALWAYS...

Pro 23:6 -8 "Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.  The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. "

Pro_21:10  "The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes."

Their desire is for themselves and the pleasures of this world...

Pro_28:22  He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

Contrasted with the behaviour of the righteous.. "He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor." -Prov 22:9

We end where we began... with the Fear of the LORD. This fear is similar to the honor and respect due to our parents, who as per commandment, should be given honor similar to that we give the LORD Himself..

Pro_30:17  The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

We are warned therefore, to use OUR EYES to turn away from EVIL and use them for GOOD.

Pro_7:2  "Keep my commandments, and live; and my law ---as the apple of thine eye.---"

Psalm 101 --- Says it beautifully ...

A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing. I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

---I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes---: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.  Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD."

Hallelujah!
